This patient presented with loose and shifted teeth as a result of chronic/generalized periodontitis. Long standing oral hygiene neglect has allowed tartar and plaque accumulation to progress. Bone destruction ultimately resulted in loose teeth. The treatment plan included extraction of hopeless teeth and fabrication of a full upper denture and a lower chrome cobalt partial denture.
Treatment is performed in stages. Once the hopeless teeth are extracted and the retained teeth cleaned, temporary dentures are fabricated. These dentures are modified and relined as tissue shrinkage occurs. Once the ridges have stabilized, final impressions are made, bite registration recorded and appropriated prosthetic teeth are selected.
These same procedures would be performed if dental implant therapy was to be utilized. Once the patient is clean and stabilized, appropriate implant therapy can be provided.
